About us

Inclusive Futures was the UK government’s flagship disability inclusion initiative, and was previously funded by USAID until January 2025.

Under the leadership of Sightsavers and the International Disability Alliance, Inclusive Futures brought together a powerful alliance of experts working on disability and eradicating poverty. Working with more than 200 national and local organisations of people with disabilities (OPDs), it proved that disability-inclusive development transforms lives, is cost-effective and delivers lasting results.

From 2018-26, the initiative:

  • Reached 3.8 million people with disabilities and 17.5 million other people
  • Improved access to education, healthcare and livelihoods
  • Influenced national policies and embedded inclusion in government systems

Together with our partners, we also generated more than 300 resources to help address the global evidence gap in what works in disability-inclusive development. This legacy provides governments, development and humanitarian organisations, donors and disability actors with practical guidance on how to develop more inclusive laws, policies and programmes. The Inclusive Futures initiative was made up of international development organisations, technical experts, experienced researchers and local partners.

We pooled resources to create innovative solutions and remove barriers that prevent people with disabilities from accessing education, health care and work.

We worked alongside disability organisations

Guided by the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and in partnership with IDA, we collaborated with organisations of people with disabilities, from design to implementation.

We tested new ideas to find out what does and doesn’t work in inclusive programming. We continue to share this evidence to encourage others to take action, invest in disability inclusion and transform lives.
